Frequently Asked Questions

In a Joint Venture (JV), the state oil firm (NNPC) and the international oil company (IOC) share funding and output proportionally based on equity. In a Production Sharing Contract (PSC), the IOC conducts operations at its own cost and risk, recovering expenses and taking profits from oil production after royalties and tax oil are paid.

The Petroleum Industry Act (PIA) restructured regulatory oversight, creating the NUPRC for upstream operations and the NMDPRA for midstream/downstream operations. It introduced new licensing regimes (PPL and PML) designed to simplify concessions and modernize tax frameworks.

Setting up an IPP requires a generation license from the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC), environmental impact assessment (EIA) certification from the Ministry of Environment, grid connection agreements, and local state development permits.

We assist developers with regulatory compliance under NERC, drafting Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs), securing state land grants, structuring joint venture funding, and navigating carbon credit schemes.
